Look vs. Feel
One of the questions I get asked the most is, “How do you stay so motivated?”
Personally, I noticed a big change in my motivation levels when I started lifting to feel great instead of only to look great.
While there’s nothing wrong with chasing aesthetic goals (I am very motivated by those, too), there’s a lot more to fitness than just looks.
I’ve been consistent for years now because of the way I feel when I lift regularly. I feel strong, balanced, confident, capable, energized.
I love waking up without back pain, something I suffered from heavily in my 20s. I love being able to keep up with my kids: running, biking, climbing, hiking. At 33, it brings me peace knowing I’m doing everything I can to slow the aging process and set a good example for my two daughters.
Fitness is a lifelong journey that will have peaks and valleys. My best advice for maintaining long-term motivation is finding goals and motivators beyond just “weight loss.”
