Life Won't Slow Down

Are you waiting for life to slow down before you make yourself a priority? Sorry, sis, but I have some news for you: life probably won’t slow down. At least not anytime soon. Maybe when we retire. Ha!

In today’s world, it can feel impossible to carve out even an hour of time to prioritize your health. But it’s so important to rearrange your schedule so that it works for you.

I’m a working parent, too, and here are some things that help me balance it all.

✔️ Find a flexible employer. I am thankful to have a full-time job with some remote flexibility. Cutting out the commute a few days a week gives me hours back to focus on my health. If your work-life balance is lacking, it might be a good idea to explore different opportunities. I know this is easier said than done, and it can take months to make a career change. But it’s worth considering.

✔️ Reconsider how you spend your time. Do you need to go to every sporting event, social outing, playdate, party, etc.? I generally don’t miss school events for my kids, but I do decline other events often. I’m tired of the hustle culture and I’m all about slower, more intentional living nowadays. Reducing your busy schedule can do wonders for your health.

✔️ Stop drinking and go to bed earlier. I’m sorry for sounding like a broken record with the alcohol stuff, but it impacts our health drastically and creates a vicious cycle of fatigue. Cutting it out has given me more energy, saved me money, improved my mental health, and given my skin a brighter glow.

✔️ Work out in the morning. My number one tip for working parents is to work out early in the morning before the kids get up. Obviously, you’ll need the help of a partner if you leave the house for the gym or a run. If you’re a single parent, working out from home is a great alternative.
